Lost Lake Ranch raises Dorper-Croix sheep, which are a cross between Dorper and St. Croix sheep. This crossbreeding results in hybrid vigor and more manageable wool.
The traits LLR looks for in our Dorper-Croix sheep are straight backs, good muscle tone, shape, and the ability to breed back. We also breed our sheep to keep a little hair on their back to prevent sunburning.
Each year the Malone’s bring to the ranch a very well-known and respected sheep and goat consultant to help cull the mature ewes and select the best replacement ewe lambs. As a result of the Malone family’s focus on maintaining the quality of the bloodline, the majority of their sheep are sold through private treaty to customers looking to improve their operation with these characteristics.
When purchasing sheep from Lost Lake Ranch you know you are buying good genetics, with outstanding characteristics from people who value integrity and honesty and are in the business for the long term.
